Zamboanga La Hermosa: Regatta De Vintas

The Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival is a vibrant, month-long cultural and religious celebration held annually in Tacloban City, Leyte, culminating on June 29. It honors the city's patron saint, Señor Santo Niño, while paying homage to the region's pre-colonial heritage. The event merges two distinct celebrations: the Pintados Festival (established in 1987), which commemorates the ancient, heavily tattooed Visayan warriors whom Spanish colonizers called "pintados" (the painted ones), and the Kasadyaan Festival (introduced in 1996), a Visayan term meaning "merriment" or "happiness". Known as the "Festival of Festivals," it draws various municipal dance contingents across Leyte to compete in a spectacular grand street parade, featuring dancers painted head-to-toe in intricate, armor-like geometric patterns to showcase the fierce spirit and resilient identity of the Waray people.

The Regatta de Zamboanga (often referred to as the Carrera de Vinta) is a highly anticipated annual sailboat race and one of the grandest highlights of the month-long Zamboanga Hermosa Festival. Held every October along the scenic R.T. Lim Boulevard in Zamboanga City, the event transforms the coastline into a spectacular "sea of color" as hundreds of vintas—traditional outrigger vessels with vibrant, multi-patterned rectangular sails—race across the water. Primarily paddled by local Sama-Bajau and Moro fishermen, the competition honors the region's deep indigenous maritime heritage and serves as a powerful symbol of community pride, artistry, and resilience.
